Hello Neighbor is an action game created by Russian developers Dynamic Pixels. The game was launched on December 8, 2017, and runs on various platforms: Android, iOS, NSW, PC, PS4, XONE.

The game's graphics are rated 2/5

Clearly designed in a certain style of environment, location, and the characters themselves. The models of the characters are angular caricature, and cartoon caricature images are also maintained. The graphics of the game looks like a fan-made demo project on unreal engine 3 or unity. And it really turned out that the game was developed on unreal engine 4. The angularity of all the textures gives the impression that the whole world is plastic. And the poor motion blur would suit more detailed projects than Hello Neighbor.

Gameplay 2/5

At first, you enthusiastically sneak around the neighbor's house, looking for the right items, distracting his attention, solving logical puzzles. But the further it goes, the worse it gets. Many things here resemble modern horror movies. Distract the attention of the "creature" can be thrown an object, and hide-and-seek in the closet and under the bed is accompanied by a frightening tremor of the screen. Only from the shelter, we do not see a creepy monster, but a funny mustachioed man who, after catching us, will not begin to bite off the head or tear off the limbs — you just wait for the restart of the level.

Controls 3/5

The mechanics remain the same throughout the game: the hero can take things, throw them, and use some of them. A free-roaming neighbor dilutes the routine with brief races. So the whole game and you move around the locations, choosing not annoying the enemy path and solving puzzles. The mind-breakers, in fact, are the gameplay value of Hello Neighbor. The value is questionable because the logic that governs the puzzles is completely opaque, and few people can master Hello Neighbor without looking at YouTube.

Replay value 2/5

The game is raw, it looks like an idea that was forgotten to implement. Initially, during the release of the alpha version looked more cheerful and was interesting for players. The game was more developed, more like a sandbox game. Artificial intelligence has become like a psychopath who can relentlessly chase you, or may not notice you at all. Subsequently, the authors lost the meaning of gameplay development and missed the moments that really attracted players. The game has lost all its original strong features if you can call them that.

Conclusion

Hello Neighbor-the fruit of a rather strange idea to create a surreal stealth horror. In itself, it is difficult to call it successful. Solving puzzles that don't have obvious logical connections will appeal only to representatives of a very rare intellectual subculture. This is a game for an Amateur-an Amateur to study every pixel of the level, solve puzzles inaccessible to the ordinary human mind, and enjoy unexpected tricks of the program code. It turns out that Hello Neighbor is an incomprehensible mix of the components that make any game.

Pros : Nice visual style;
Sometimes racing with a neighbor causes emotions;
Interesting location design at later stages.

Cons : Lots of bugs;
Stingy gameplay that copies the clichés of modern horror.
